Augment Human Intelligence – Should it Augment Human Intelligence?

Augment Human Intelligence, experts say, in an environment where data is transforming the way companies create value and compete, larger deployments of artificial intelligence (AI) will add $ 15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. I believe it will bring. Many people believe that when AI changes the way businesses work, who will do the job, and  businesses will begin to replace human workers with smart computers. The Augment Human Intelligence has already driven people out of the manufacturing, servicing, recruiting and financial fields, driving human workers  to low-paying jobs and employing them. Some believe that this pattern will make our workforce  obsolete by 2040.

But is it true that humans and machines are competing with each other? The history of labor is the history of individuals outsourcing labor to machines, especially since the Industrial Revolution. Starting with monotonous and repetitive physical tasks such as weaving, robots are now able to perform demanding cognitive tasks such as math, speech recognition, and writing. As a result, machines appear to be able to reproduce the work of our minds, not just our bodies. In the 21st century, AI has evolved to surpass humans in many activities, and we believe  we are ready to hand over our intelligence to machines. With this current trend, there seems to be nothing that can be automated in the near future. That is, there is no safe work  from delegation to the machine.

Machine Intelligence and Human Intelligence

People generally consider today’s modern computers to be intelligent  because they have the ability to learn and make decisions based on the data they receive. However, although we are aware of this ability, we have a clear form of intelligence.

In its simplest form, AI is a machine that works intelligently and makes decisions. According to Alan Turing, AI mimics how humans behave, feel, communicate, and make decisions. This type of intelligence is of great value in an organizational environment. Thanks to the ability to imitate, AI has the ability to recognize patterns of information that maximize the trends associated with the task. Moreover, unlike humans, AI is not physically tiring and will continue to function as long as the data is supplied.

Due to these characteristics, artificial intelligence is suitable for use in repetitive routine activities  within a closed management system. In such a system, the rules of the game are clear and unaffected by the outside world. Imagine a production line where employees are undisturbed by external demands and influences such as work meetings. For example, the assembly line is  where Amazon puts the algorithm in the position of a supervisor to monitor and even dismiss real workers. The work is repetitive and follows strict rules aimed at improving efficiency and performance, allowing AI to perform better than human supervisors.

On the other hand, human abilities are more diverse. Humans have the ability to imagine, anticipate, feel, and evaluate changing situations, and unlike AI capabilities that respond only to the facts provided, humans can move from short-term concerns to long-term concerns. These talents are unique to humans and do not always require external input, as they do with artificial intelligence.

Augment Human Intelligence True intelligence in that sense is a new form of AI, if you do. This form of intelligence is required for open systems. In an open leadership style, a team or organization interacts with the outside world and  must deal with external pressure. Such a work environment requires the ability to anticipate and manage unexpected changes and distorted flow of information, but it also requires innovative capabilities to extract future visions and plans. Transformation efforts are underway in open systems, and  true intelligence is needed to successfully manage this process.
